If you have a few hours to unwind and want to try something different, here are some frugal ways to entertain yourself and have fun!

  1. Google “virtual museum tours” and lose yourself in the world-famous artwork.  You can browse many of the works at the Louvre – without spending a dime on airfare to Paris.

  2. Go for a walk and take pictures with your phone of birds you encounter; try to identify them when you get home. If you need assistance, The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a free app that helps you identify birds. You can search by size, color, location, upload a photo, or even listen to audio clips of the birds’ songs and calls to narrow it down! It’s a great way to learn more about feathered friends in your area.  Find the app here: http://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/

  3. Grab a friend and go window shopping. Try on silly hats, and outfits you’d never buy.

  4. Visit your local library and try to find your favorite childhood book.

  5. Feeling stressed? Make a cup of tea or coffee. Pull out a pen or pencil and some paper. Free write your thoughts or doodle for an hour or so. Check and see if your stress levels haven’t lowered.  Repeat as needed.
